Dunklin County Recorder of Deeds

The Dunklin County Recorder of Deeds is located at 700 N Main St in Kennett, MO 63857, phone 573-888-4149. Marriage records at this office begin in 1845 and land records from 1843, two years before the county was formally organized. That land record predates reflects how settlers were acquiring and recording property in this area before the county government was established.

The courthouse burned in 1865, but the records were saved by county officials who moved them out before the fire consumed the building. This makes Dunklin County unusual among southeast Missouri counties, where courthouse fires often wiped out early documents. Both marriage and land records from the pre-fire period are intact and accessible at the Recorder's office in Kennett.

Standard recording fees are $24 for the first page and $3 for each additional page. Contact the Recorder to verify current copy fees and office hours. The Missouri Recorders Association at morecorders.com lists all county recorder contact details. Marriage licenses today cost $46.00 and require both parties to appear in person.
